"Car alarms" are often thought to be a nuisance - unreliable, annoying, and often ignored.
Unfortunately, there's a lot of truth to this - many car alarms do make noise when they shouldn't, and some fail to do the job of protecting the car and its contents. Why is this? Three reasons:
In order to reach the lowest price points, security manufacturers only include bare-bones functionality in the basic kit. Then an inexperienced sales "consultant" is supposed
to make sure you get the rest of the components your car needs. If they remember to mention these add-ons, they often offer more sizzle, not more steak. Glitzy remote control features are nice, but security should be the number one motivation. Unfortunately, most salespeople aren't experienced enough to be qualified system designers.
Some customers are more concerned with auto theft, while others are more concerned with car burglary - especially those with aftermarket wheels, performance parts, and stereo equipment. These two needs require very different systems to be designed and installed. What inhibits or deters a car thief doesn't neccesarily impede a would-be burglar.
An example: Most systems come with an impact sensor or "shock sensor". The salesman may tell you that this sensor can detect jacking up the car, or breaking the windows. It can't. Impact sensors are designed and engineered to detect a hammer blow to the car door locks - nothing less. A thief might break the window with no response from the alarm! If the sensitivity threshold is turned up too high in an attempt to detect these other event types, false alarms are the result.
Avincar Certified Security systems have the appropriate sensors - impact, glass breakage, tilting, et cetera - built in, right from the start. It might seem counter-intuitive, but the more sensors you have that are appropriate to your car, the less your chances of a false trigger - since each sensor is allowed to be application-specific, and thus is set at the lower end of its sensitivity range.
America's leading consumer magazine has written that "...installation is 80% of the effectiveness of a security system". We couldn't agree more. If a siren, an alarm "brain", or a power wire are easily found by a would-be thief, they are also easily bypassed. If an installer doesn't take the time to make sure every sensor is tuned properly, false triggers are the result. There are no shortcuts around quality installation, and we make certain to take the time required to do it right. avincar offers free alarm tune-ups for as long as you own the car (ask for more details).
When they see a car alarm advertised for $199, many folks don't see any reason to spend $350 - and at some stores, it's easy to buy a $350 alarm that isn't one bit more secure than a $199 alarm. But not at avincar.
At avincar, we don't sell alarm systems at an artificially low price point that prevents us from getting the job done right. We believe that these stripped-down $199 security systems are what give car alarms a bad name. ACS systems start at $350 installed in most cars - to make certain that the system is complete and appropriate. The specifics vary with your car make and model and its specific needs - so give us a call and find out what we can do for you.
