Avincar Certified Sound

What is Avincar Certified Sound?

It's a set of pre-designed systems for most newer cars. These systems can use your original CD player, but they all upgrade the speakers and add a small, hidden amplifier. The new speakers are installed in place of the originals, so everything looks the same as it did before - but the sound quality is leaps and bounds beyond the factory sound system.

ACS systems don't require the installation of trunk-mounted subwoofer boxes, and they aren't designed to be loud outside the car. Inside the car, however, Avincar Certified Sound is guaranteed to deliver three basic results:

Better sound. Better sound means that the highs need to sound detailed without sounding bright and fatiguing, the voices and horns need to sound right without sounding artificial, and the bass needs to sound real without thumping the car next to you.

Better stereo sound. Better stereo sound means that the voices and high notes - the sounds that our ears use to discern direction - need to come from in front of us, and as far forward as possible. When this happens, something wonderful results - the stereo effect creates the illusion of a performance right in front of us. We hear the vocalist over there, the drummer in the back, the guitarist stage left - and this extended degree of realism, while not perfect, takes musical enjoyment to a far deeper level.

Better usable volume. Better usable volume means that when the the volume is set to a level that's reasonable, the system still sounds great. Many factory sound systems are glaringly bad at higher volume settings - settings you probably need to use with the windows down and the sunroof open. An Avincar Certified system may not be dramatically louder - but it will sound dramatically better - and will usually be a bit louder to boot. (If very high volumes are your goal, consider a custom system. If you want to be heard down the block, we can recommend another shop that can do what you need.)

Some rules we follow to reach these objectives:
Your system needs to have "front stage".

When stereo hi-fi got big in the 60's, the main reason for its commercial success was the impressive illusion that stereo creates. When the two speakers are positioned properly, you can hear an amazingly realistic recreation of where the performers were positioned as they played - as if they were in front of you on stage (hence the term).

When speakers started going into cars, the bigger, louder speakers went in back because that's where they fit (no sonic principle at work there). Over time, many people have started to assume that most of the sound is supposed to come from the rear of the car. That's just not so (the only people who have their back to the stage at a concert are wearing a jacket marked "Security"). A good sound system re-creates that performance in front of you, not behind you. To do that, we only need voices and highs coming from in front.

You don't need "rear fill".

See above. Avincar Certified Sound systems are front-stage systems with no "rear fill" - no rear speakers playing vocals or high notes that ruin the front-stage stereo effect. Since music isn't recorded in "surround sound", trying to create a surround-sound effect just doesn't give good results (ask the people who invented "Quadraphonic sound" how well that worked out). All rear speakers do in Avincar Certified Systems is play the lowest notes, sounds that we don't discern direction from. We know that many people aren't used to this approach - that's why we offer the 30-day avincar Performance Guarantee. You have two weeks to try out an Avincar Certified system, and if you decide it's not for you, we will return your entire system to original stock parts, and refund your money. That's how confident we are that you'll love Avincar Certified Sound.

You don't need metal tweeters.

Over the last few years, speaker made of aluminum or titanium playing high notes have become popular. They're easy to sell, because they sound impressive in a display board - but after a short while, they become fatiguing to listen to, and for that reason we don't use them. We prefer silk soft dome tweeters for accuracy and smoothness, and it's all we choose to use. We also use only tweeters that play very low into the midrange, because this helps us create the stereo effect best, elevating horns and voices so that they seem to be at eye level.

The midrange is most important.

Bass and treble can be most impressive at first, but if the midrange isn't right, as has been said before, nothing else matters. With Avincar Certified Sound, vocalists sound rich, full, and detailed - and right in front of you.

Your car doesn't need to be changed.

We think your car is fine the way it is. Except for custom systems, cutting metal is not allowed, everything functions the same way, and nothing we do will impede mechanics at work later on. We won't fill your trunk with speakers or amplifiers (unless you get a custom system and specifically request that), and our goal is that no one but you knows about your new system.
